Archview’s Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) Training Overview

Craft workers, machine operators, and other laborers dealing with hazardous energy are at a higher risk of being injured (or even killed) on site. The risk is so high that OSHA developed a standard (29 CFR 1910.147) to address the practices and procedures needed to keep these workers safe.

Among the practices and procedures listed is lockout/tagout (LOTO) training, which helps workers understand how to properly control electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal, and other energy resources. In fact, OSHA estimates that around 120 fatalities and 50,000 injuries can be prevented every year with lockout/tagout (LOTO) training that’s compliant with OSHA’s 1910.147 standard.

If you have high-risk employees, know that Archview Services is here to help. We offer a comprehensive, OSHA-compliant LOTO course that will help you establish better energy control procedures and train employees on your unique energy control program.

Course Overview

Our 8-hour course, titled “The Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) Training Certification combines classroom learning with hands-on training to meet the needs of various industries and satisfies the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 training requirements for controlling hazardous energy. Our course ends with a written exam. Once attendees pass this exam, they’ll earn a Competent Person certification for LOTO activities.

What makes our LOTO course different from other offerings is that we typically travel to our client’s facilities to conduct it. This helps us provide more personalized training and maximize convenience. We can also adapt our course so it’s presented in a virtual format or in individual or group settings.

Section 1: Hazardous Energy Control Procedures

The first section of our LOTO course focuses on the various types of hazardous energy. We’ll cover electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal energies, and other energy resources and discuss best practices for safely controlling them. This section will also cover:

  • Industry safety regulations
  • Hazard identification
  • Safe work practices during service and maintenance tasks

Section 1 will also cover OSHA requirements for LOTO procedures. For instance, part of OSHA’s minimum performance requirements states that employers must establish an energy control program that dictates proper procedure for removing energy supply, training requirements, and annual inspection of such procedures to ensure they remain effective.

Section 2: Lockout/Tagout Devices and Application

The second section of our LOTO course covers the proper selection and application of LOTO devices. Attendees will be instructed on how to properly assess equipment to ensure there’s little to no risk of accidental startup during maintenance and repair activities.

What You Will Get From This Course

Following completion of “The Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) Training Certification” course, attendees will have a comprehensive understanding of their roles and responsibilities in developing and implementing an energy control or LOTO program to ensure workers are safe when servicing and maintaining machinery and equipment.

Attendees can also expect to understand how to properly manage a LOTO program, including how to supervise, implement, and monitor it.

When to Schedule This Course
